Who would have thought that a few punks, mystics, bloggers, chavurot leaders and tattooed Jews wearing tefillin would lead the way in American Jewish life?
PunkTorah as a blog may have come-and-gone (or as we say, frozen in carbonite), but PunkTorah Inc., the creative minds that brought you OneShul and Darshan Yeshiva continue on to do amazing things.
Our strength comes from our ability to gather erav rav, the mixed multitude, together into one sacred place online. It began with Ketzirah, Jeremiah, Rivka, Michael and myself. Now, we have countless leaders including our 25+ rabbis at Darshan Yeshiva. As one Conservative rabbi recently told me: you [PunkTorah] are not a website, you are a shaliach (ambassador).
Growth has and will always be our goal. So where do we go now? This is where I look to you. I peer out into a great depth of people online who are waiting to step up into the PunkTorah network, and I ask this simple question: will you stand with us? Will you work with us? Will you join us in this revolution we have put together?
What do we need? A few things.
OneShul Spiritual Leadership
Our beloved friend Kohenet Ketzirah is doing some amazing art projects and things that bring joy to her life. To make room for that, along with a lot of other work already on her plate, she has needed to take a break from OneShul leadership. Ben has stepped in to handle administratively, along with Sky who is handling some Facebook duties. But now we need someone to lead services, teach classes and provide that ruach (spirit) we always need. You do not have to be Ketzirah (no one is but her). You do not need to be me (again, no one is but me). You need to be you. Are you a Classical Reform Earth-Based Mystical Ju-Bu? GREAT! We need that! Are you a Humanistic Conservadox wanna-be cantor? GREAT! We need that! We need you. Reach out to firstname.lastname@example.org
We will never stop needing rabbis and cantors for our online conversion program. So if you’re looking to do mitzvahs, earn money by working at home, and love the idea of a job where all you have to do is be a mentor and someone else handles all other aspects of your work (finance, paperwork, HR, etc.) then send us an email to email@example.com!
What’s next? Heck if I know! The PunkTorah network is no the Rabbi Patrick Show. It belongs to no one individual. We take on projects because the people inspire us. Because people come into our network with amazing ideas and we work to lift them up. So what’s your big idea? And how can we help? OneShul and Darshan Yeshiva, in particular, have the resources to do amazing things, but that does not mean that something new, completely new, is not on our horizon. But it will take you to make that happen. Shoot an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Remember, you matter.
Warmly, -Rabbi Patrick
