Judaism In 30 Seconds

There’s a Cold War between all the different Jewish educational sites over who can give the fastest explanations of Jewish law, holidays, texts and other Jewish topics. Here at PunkTorah, we subscribe to the Index Card approach to Judaism: if it can’t be explained on the space of an index card, it’s not worth thinking about. In that spirit, I present to you Judaism In 30 Seconds. You can watch more videos by visiting PunkTorah TV.

Help Fund PunkTorah: The Movie!

PunkTorah is raising $688* to purchase Adobe Creative Suite 5: Production Premium, an awesome software that will allow us to make movie quality videos for YouTube, and fund a potential PunkTorah Movie! It’ll look something like this…

THE BEST PART: PunkTorah is going to match $1 for every $1 that you give. SWEET!

So sponsor a PunkTorah/OneShul video. Here’s what you get…

$18 Donation

-Your name, picture, voice, music, band, and/or writing will be the feature of your own PunkTorah Jewish educational video. If you live in the Atlanta area, you can even be in the video!

-You pick the topic of the video (sample topics include: how to become a rabbi, Judaism and transgender issues, Jewish skate boarding stars, whatever).

-”thank you” intro and ending credits with our undying love for you.

$36 Donation

- You will be immortalized in PunkTorah history!

- In addition to having TWO videos with all the perks listed above, you’ll also receive an honorarium on all four PunkTorah sites: PunkTorah.org, NewKosher.org, 3xDaily.org and OneShul.org for two weeks.

- Last but not least, you will also receive a free advance e-copy of The PunkTorah Jewish Cocktail Book, coming out in a few months

Remember, since our funds will be matched dollar for dollar, donating $36 is like donating $72! But we can’t do this without you…

WE DID IT! Thank you to everyone who made this project happen! Although we have fundraised fully for this project, we are still taking donations for the PunkTorah General Fund. Please consider donating to keep PunkTorah alive.

Donate via paypal or by sending a check to:

PunkTorah
Attn: Fundraising
872 Baltimore PL SW
Marietta, GA 30064

*Any amount over $688 that we receive from this drive will go to the PunkTorah general fund.

Star Wars and the Talmud

As the Talmud says, there’s nothing new under the sun. And since we’re huge Star Wars nerds here at PunkTorah, we wondered, “can the Talmud help us answer all the important fandom questions we have?”
Well, it did when we asked, “did Han Solo shoot first? And if so, was it the right thing to do?”

Redneck Blowout at the PunkTorah Shop

Crazy Randy is at it again. First, he taught us about Rosh Hashanah. Then he told us to quit worrying about intermarriage (and in the process, tricked the nice people at the Jewish Futures Conference into inviting us to speak at the General Assembly). Now, he wants you to buy PunkTorah’s shwag at ModernTribe. Check it out…

It Gets Better

Click here and take the pledge and help spread our message of hope. It Gets Better.

THE PLEDGE: Everyone deserves to be respected for who they are. I pledge to spread this message to my friends, family and neighbors. I’ll speak up against hate and intolerance whenever I see it, at school and at work. I’ll provide hope for lesbian, gay, bi, trans and other bullied teens by letting them know that “It Gets Better.”

Cuz I’m Jewish: Jewish Stereotypes on YouTube

I get really, really, really tired of the phrase “Jewish identity”. But I do like these “Cuz I’m Jewish” videos that I’ve seen on YouTube. So here’s a few of my favorite “Cuz I’m Jewish” videos, along with one that I made (at the bottom).

I Get By With A Little Help From My Friends…

We had an awesome time hanging out at the GA. Thank you to the Jewish Futures Conference for having us speak!

In case you didn’t see us there, here’s a recap of our fun at the GA, include interviews with David Abitbol of Jewlicious, Sarah Lefton of G-dcast and Dan Sieradski of WeRepair. And of course, the infamous video of us dancing our butts off in front of 400 people.
